Commercially astute with hands on experience in property development and operating an international business, Chris is an experienced property lawyer with considerable commercial acumen.
Chris acts for clients acquiring, developing and disposing of residential, commercial, retail and industrial sites including undertaking legal due diligence prior to contract, negotiating contracts of sale and development agreements for development sites.
Chris regularly works with large and medium size businesses, Council, private investors and high net worth individuals, advising on:
- the sale and purchase of residential and commercial property, preparing deeds of variation and cancellation;
- master off the plan land and building contracts;
- agreements for lease, retail and commercial leasing, deeds of variation, renewals and surrenders;
- property re-entries for landlords;
- restrictive covenants and variation/removal for property developers; and
- loan agreements, general security agreements and mortgages.
Industry Experience
Chris’ broad range of vocations has afforded him the ability to combine his business and legal acumen in delivering practical and commercial legal advice to his clients.
- Institutional: Undertaking legal due diligence, negotiating purchase contracts and settling business and freehold transactions for an ASX listed lifestyle company.
- Developers: Assisting in relation to undertaking green fields/master planned projects ranging between 150 to 1,000 lots as well as large built form projects including advising with respect to complex subdivision, off the plan contracts, development agreements, adjoining owner agreements, joint venture agreements and shareholder/structuring arrangements.
- Retail, Industrial and Office: Acting for a property fund in relation to all the leasing for a 19-level office building. Chris also assists landlords and tenants with the negotiation of agreements for lease, leases, variations, surrenders and renewals.
- Council: Advisor to Suburban Council with respect to property acquisition, easement and general property law advice.
- Family Office: Due diligence advice with respect to proposed $160million acquisition of an interest in a shopping centre.
- Finance: Advising both lenders and borrowers in relation to loan agreements and related security arrangements.
